Two Women Arrested With Spasmo-Proxyvon Capsules in Manipur’s Kakching District
In a major anti-drug operation, Manipur Police arrested two women and recovered hundreds of Spasmo-Proxyvon (SP) capsules from the Kakching district, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
According to police sources, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding illegal drug activities in the Pallel Laimanai Chingjin area under Kakching Police Station. During the raid, police apprehended two women and seized 288 Spasmo-Proxyvon capsules along with two mobile phones from their possession.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Th. Vini (52) and Ayola Shinglai (55), both residents of Liwa Leikun village in Chandel district. During interrogation, the accused reportedly failed to provide valid documents or authorization for possessing the banned capsules.
Police officials stated that Spasmo-Proxyvon abuse continues to pose a serious challenge in Manipur, especially among youths and students. Though originally manufactured as a pain-relief and antispasmodic medicine, the drug has become widely misused because of its opioid-like and intoxicating effects.
Authorities said the illegal trafficking and abuse of SP capsules have significantly contributed to rising substance addiction cases across the state. The capsules are often used as a substitute for banned narcotic substances, raising concerns among law enforcement agencies and health officials.
The two accused women have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Police have also handed over the seized items and the accused to the concerned police station for further legal proceedings.
Officials reiterated that anti-drug drives would continue across vulnerable districts to curb the spread of illegal narcotics and protect young people from drug addiction.
