Manipur CM Chairs NCORD Meeting, Calls for Stronger Action Against Drug Trafficking

Imphal, June 16: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) at the State Secretariat in Imphal to assess ongoing efforts against drug trafficking and substance abuse and to strengthen the state’s anti-narcotics strategy.

The high-level meeting was attended by K. Govindas Singh, senior police officials, the Director General of Police, the Security Adviser, and representatives from major security agencies, including the Assam Rifles, Border Security Force, and Central Reserve Police Force.

During the meeting, participants reviewed existing measures to curb the trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. Discussions focused on enhancing intelligence-sharing mechanisms, improving coordination among agencies, and strengthening enforcement operations to dismantle illegal drug networks operating within and beyond the state.

Emphasising the importance of a unified approach, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to intensifying action against drug traffickers and individuals involved in the illegal narcotics trade. He stressed that coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies and security forces are essential to effectively tackle the growing challenge posed by drug-related crimes.

The meeting also examined ways to improve cooperation among various departments and security agencies to address substance abuse, particularly among young people. Participants discussed preventive measures, awareness programmes, and enforcement initiatives aimed at reducing the social impact of narcotics.

Khemchand Singh reiterated that the state government remains firmly committed to its vision of a drug-free Manipur through sustained enforcement drives, public awareness campaigns, and stronger institutional collaboration.

The NCORD meeting forms part of the state’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking, strengthen border security, and safeguard communities from the harmful effects of narcotics and substance abuse.
