Manipur CM Launches Kharif 2026 Fertilizer Distribution Programme, Flags Off Subsidized Organic Fertilizer

Imphal, June 15: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday launched the Fertilizer Distribution Programme for the Kharif 2026 season and flagged off the distribution of the organic fertilizer “Oorja” at a subsidized rate to support farmers and promote sustainable agriculture across the state.

The programme was inaugurated at the Directorate of Agriculture in Imphal with the objective of ensuring timely fertilizer availability, transparent distribution, and enhanced agricultural productivity. More than 3.3 lakh farmers engaged in paddy cultivation and allied farming activities are expected to benefit from the initiative.

As part of the state’s push toward organic and eco-friendly farming practices, Oorja fertilizer will be distributed through 187 centres across Manipur. While the market price of each bag is Rs 480, farmers will receive it at a subsidized rate of Rs 250 per bag.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister assured farmers that the state currently has an adequate stock of nearly two lakh bags of urea and that there is no shortage of fertilizers. He emphasized that distribution would be carried out strictly according to actual requirements and only after proper verification procedures.

To enhance transparency and prevent misuse, the government has made Aadhaar-based verification mandatory. Fertilizers will be distributed based on Aadhaar cards, farmer identity cards, and area-specific cultivation requirements to ensure that genuine beneficiaries receive the support.

Khemchand Singh noted that although approximately 1.8 lakh bags of urea were distributed until September last year, reports of shortages had surfaced in certain areas. The revised distribution system has been introduced to address such issues and improve efficiency in the supply chain.

The Chief Minister also instructed Agriculture Department officials to closely monitor fertilizer distribution across all districts and encouraged farmers to immediately report any concerns regarding availability or allocation to the Directorate of Agriculture.

Highlighting the government’s long-term agricultural strategy, he stated that Manipur aims to gradually reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers while encouraging wider adoption of organic farming methods to promote soil health and sustainable agricultural growth.

The programme was attended by Thaithuilung Panmei, senior Agriculture Department officials, farmers, public representatives, and other stakeholders. Before the launch event, the Chief Minister visited and inspected the Organic Outlet Shop located near the venue.

The initiative is expected to strengthen agricultural productivity while supporting the state’s broader vision of environmentally sustainable and farmer-friendly agricultural development.
