Six Meetei houses were burned down by Kuki in front of Central security forces at Leimakhong
Imphal, Manipur: At least five houses belonging to Meitei residents were reportedly destroyed in a fire following an alleged attack by suspected Kuki militants in Kanto Sabal, near Leimakhong, on Friday, according to local residents and ground reports.
The affected families were identified as L. Sanathoi (21), L. Rajesh (36), L. Rahul (31), L. Nungshitombi, T. Leiri (80), and Kangjam Guni (75). The extent of the damage to the properties is yet to be officially assessed.
Following the incident, local residents staged a protest, alleging that security personnel stationed in the vicinity failed to prevent the attack despite their presence in the area. Protesters demanded accountability and questioned the effectiveness of security arrangements in the locality.
As the demonstration intensified, central security forces reportedly used tear gas shells to disperse the gathering. The action led to further resentment among sections of the protesters, who expressed dissatisfaction over the handling of the situation.
Authorities have not yet released an official statement confirming the circumstances surrounding the fire or the allegations regarding those responsible. The exact cause of the incident and the identities of those involved remain under investigation.
