Awangbou Newmai Appeals to Deputy CM Nemcha Kipgen to ‘Teach Their People to Be More Human and Christian’
Naga People’s Front (NPF) Manipur State Unit president Awangbou Newmai has appealed to Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Kuki leaders to teach their people to respect human life and uphold Christian values following the killing of four Naga civilians.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday on the sidelines of a condolence service held at Senapati headquarters, Newmai condemned the August 27 ambush along the Imphal-Tamenglong (IT) Road.
Newmai said Nagas respect the dead, even when those killed are considered enemies, and maintained that the Naga community respects people from all communities. He expressed concern over what he described as the failure to respect human life in the recent incident.
He specifically appealed to Kuki leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and other Christian leaders, to guide their people towards respecting humanity.
Newmai alleged the involvement of the KNF-P in the killings and noted that the group is under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement. He demanded that the agreement with the group be terminated and that those responsible for the killings face appropriate punishment.
He further stated that the Imphal-Tamenglong Road has become unsafe for travellers and said the issue had been raised with the Chief Minister, with a demand for justice for the victims.
The four Naga civilians were killed in an ambush on August 27 while travelling between Makui Ashang and Makui Thanamba villages along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district.
