RIMS Imphal Set for AIIMS Upgrade, New Medical College Proposed in Senapati
New Delhi, August 31, 2026: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal is set to be upgraded to the status of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), following an agreement by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda.
The decision was conveyed during a meeting between Nadda and Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh in New Delhi on Monday. The Chief Minister thanked the Union Minister for supporting efforts to strengthen healthcare facilities in Manipur.
Nadda also agreed to approve the proposal for setting up a new medical college in Senapati district.
The development follows a meeting between Chief Minister Khemchand Singh and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 26, during which Shah agreed to lay the foundation stone of the Senapati Medical College during his proposed visit to Manipur in the first week of October.
