Manipur: CoTU Condemns Alleged Abduction of 71-Year-Old Man in Sadar Hills
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has condemned the alleged abduction of 71-year-old Hemjang Haokip from Khunkho Kuki Village in Manipur’s Sadar Hills on Friday afternoon.
According to CoTU, Haokip was allegedly taken from the village around 3 pm by armed cadres suspected to be linked with the NSCN-IM and ZUF-Kamson faction.
CoTU described the incident as a serious concern that could increase communal tensions and affect the fragile peace in the region. The organisation alleged that targeting an elderly civilian could create friction between communities.
The committee appealed to civil society groups, church leaders and community elders to intervene and help ensure Haokip’s safe release. It also urged the Governor, Security Advisor and law enforcement agencies to conduct an immediate search, register a case and take legal action against those responsible.
CoTU also raised questions over the alleged presence of armed cadres during the daytime despite ceasefire arrangements.
The identities and affiliations of the alleged abductors have not been independently verified.
