‘Dismissal Is a Blessing in Disguise to Expose Witch Hunt’: Congress MP Bimol Akoijam

Imphal, October 9: Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has described his dismissal from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) over sexual harassment allegations as a “blessing in disguise,” claiming that the development would expose what he termed a witch hunt against him.

Speaking to the media at Congress Bhavan, Imphal, on Friday, Akoijam said he had nothing to hide and called for the allegations and the findings of the inquiry to be made available to him.

He stated that he had not received the inquiry report or dismissal order and questioned the process, urging the authorities to present the relevant documents so that the public could understand the circumstances surrounding the decision.

Referring to the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, 2013, Akoijam said the law was enacted by the Indian Parliament and stressed that its provisions and requirements should be examined.

Meanwhile, several women staged a protest at the BJP headquarters in Imphal, demanding Akoijam’s resignation over the sexual harassment allegations. The protesters called for accountability and urged him to step down on moral grounds.

The demonstrators also took out a rally from the BJP office to Kangla Fort, covering a distance of nearly one kilometre in the state capital.
