The Manipur Forest Department on May 12 released five rescued snakes into their natural habitat at the Langol Reserved Forest as part of ongoing wildlife conservation efforts in the state.
The relocation operation was carried out by the Central Forest Division in the presence of forest officials, including Vikram Suresh Nadhe, Range Forest Officer Yumnam Kiranjit, forest staff, and a research scholar from the Department of Zoology, Manipur University.
The rescued reptiles included:
- One adult Copper-headed Trinket Snake
- Three Monocled Cobras, including two unusually large ones
- One Indochinese Rat Snake
According to officials, the snakes had earlier been rescued from different areas of Imphal West and Imphal East districts during coordinated rescue operations conducted by the Forest Department.
After medical observation and safety checks, all five snakes were safely released into the Langol Reserved Forest.
The Forest Department reiterated its commitment to wildlife conservation and appealed to the public not to harm wild animals or reptiles found in residential areas. Residents were urged to immediately inform the Forest Department or authorised rescue teams whenever wildlife is spotted in human habitation zones.
