Kuki Inpi Calls on Kuki-Zo Legislators to Boycott Manipur Assembly Session
The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has urged all Kuki-Zo legislators to remain away from the Manipur Legislative Assembly session scheduled to begin on September 2.
The six-day session will run until September 7, with three sittings planned. In its latest directive, the KIM asked Kuki-Zo MLAs not to travel to Imphal for the eighth Assembly session.
The apex Kuki body said its decision is linked to the continuing political crisis in Manipur and its demand for a separate political administration for the Kuki-Zo people.
KIM maintained that resuming normal Assembly proceedings at a time when the political issue remains unresolved could create an impression that the situation in Manipur has returned to normal. It also expressed concern that participation by Kuki-Zo legislators could weaken the community’s demand for a political settlement.
The organisation has therefore called on the legislators to maintain a common political position and demonstrate what it described as responsibility towards the aspirations of the Kuki-Zo community.
KIM further questioned the conduct of routine legislative business while the state continues to face an unresolved political crisis.
The directive represents the position of the Kuki apex body. Whether all Kuki-Zo legislators will comply with the instruction and remain absent from the Assembly session is yet to be clear.
There are currently nine Kuki-Zo legislators in the 60-member Manipur Assembly. They include Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and six other BJP MLAs.
