Manipur: 6.2 kg Crystal Meth Worth ₹60 Crore Seized in Imphal, One Arrested
Imphal, July 19: Security forces arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized 6.2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), estimated to be worth around ₹60 crore in the international illicit market, during an anti-narcotics operation in Manipur.
The operation was carried out in the Khuman Lampak area of Imphal, where security personnel apprehended Md. Yusub (41), also known by the aliases Kaki and Jakir. He is a resident of Porompat Pangal Leirak in Imphal East district.
During the search, officials recovered six packets of crystal methamphetamine (ICE) weighing approximately 6.2 kg from his possession.
In addition to the narcotics, security forces also seized a TVS Jupiter scooter bearing registration number MN-06SK-4357, which was allegedly being used in connection with the transportation of the contraband.
The recovered drugs, valued at approximately ₹60 crore in the international black market, have been taken into police custody. A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to identify other individuals linked to the suspected drug trafficking network.
Officials said efforts are continuing to trace the source and intended destination of the seized consignment as part of the ongoing crackdown on narcotics in the state.
