Manipur CM Disburses ₹91.66 Crore in Welfare Assistance to Over 2.4 Lakh Beneficiaries, Launches Digital Pension System
Imphal, July 22: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Wednesday distributed welfare assistance amounting to ₹91.66 crore to more than 2.4 lakh beneficiaries under 17 social welfare schemes implemented by the State Social Welfare Department. The Chief Minister also launched the Integrated Monthly Pension Processing System (IMPPS) to ensure faster, transparent, and efficient pension disbursement across the state.
The welfare distribution programme was held at the City Convention Centre in Imphal, where a total of 2,40,758 beneficiaries received financial assistance worth ₹91,66,50,772 under various government welfare initiatives.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to Public Welfare
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh acknowledged the hardships faced by the people of Manipur during the past three years due to the prolonged crisis, which has affected both livelihoods and emotional well-being.
He stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with the support of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the state government has introduced several welfare programmes aimed at reducing financial stress on vulnerable families. He expressed confidence that the financial assistance would provide meaningful support to thousands of beneficiaries across the state.
Call for Unity and Lasting Peace
The Chief Minister stressed that lasting peace and development can only be achieved through unity, cooperation, and collective effort. He urged people from all communities to strengthen the spirit of togetherness by identifying themselves as Manipuris and working jointly for the progress and prosperity of the state.
Integrated Pension Processing System Introduced
During the programme, the Chief Minister officially launched the Integrated Monthly Pension Processing System, a digital initiative designed to improve the speed, transparency, and accuracy of monthly pension payments under various social welfare schemes.
The new system is expected to streamline pension processing, minimize delays, and ensure beneficiaries receive their financial support on time.
Chief Secretary Highlights Inclusive Development
In his presidential address, Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel noted that the recent crisis has disproportionately impacted women, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, widows, and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
He emphasized that both the government and society share the responsibility of protecting and supporting vulnerable communities. According to him, the welfare assistance programme reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive development, social justice, and improving the quality of life for every section of society.
Dignitaries Attend the Programme
The event was attended by Arts and Culture and Tourism Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh, Members of the Legislative Assembly, Social Welfare Commissioner Haobam Rosita, senior government officials, department staff, beneficiaries, and students.
The large-scale welfare distribution marks another significant initiative by the Manipur Government to strengthen social security and improve the lives of vulnerable citizens through targeted financial assistance and digital governance reforms.
