Manipur CM Flags Off 477 Advanced Police Vehicles Under Police Modernisation Scheme
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday flagged off 477 newly inducted advanced vehicles for the Manipur Police Department under the state government’s police modernisation programme.
The flag-off ceremony took place at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal in the presence of Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, and other senior officials.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister commended the dedication and contribution of the Manipur Police during the ongoing conflict situation in the state. He stated that the force has continued to play an important role in maintaining peace, security, and law and order despite difficult challenges.
Yumnam Khemchand Singh also praised police personnel for excelling in sports and other fields while carrying out their responsibilities in public safety and security operations.
Expressing concern over recent incidents of violence during protests and agitations, the Chief Minister said democratic protests are a constitutional right but stressed that violent activities and destruction of public property should be avoided.
During the programme, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said the induction of nearly 400 advanced vehicles under the police modernisation scheme would significantly strengthen mobility, operational efficiency, and emergency response capabilities of the police force across the state.
He further appreciated the efforts of DGP Rajiv Singh in enhancing the capabilities of the police department through the procurement of modern weapons, advanced operational tools, and protective equipment.
According to the Home Minister, around 54 per cent of the newly inducted vehicles will be deployed in hill districts, while the remaining 46 per cent will be allocated to valley districts to ensure balanced and effective distribution.
HM Govindas Konthoujam also announced that the government is planning to procure more advanced technological systems and equipment to improve cyber crime investigations and effectively address technology-related offences.
Officials stated that the police modernisation initiative is aimed at strengthening infrastructure, security preparedness, mobility, and technological capabilities of the Manipur Police amid evolving security challenges in the region.
