Manipur CM Hails Posthumous Padma Shri for Cultural Icon Yumnam Jatra Singh
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has welcomed the posthumous conferment of the prestigious Padma Shri award on renowned Manipuri cultural figure Yumnam Jatra Singh for his contribution to the field of Art.
In a post shared on X on May 26, the Chief Minister expressed happiness over the honour and described the late Yumnam Jatra Singh as a distinguished exponent of Nat Sankirtana and one of Manipur’s most respected cultural icons whose artistic legacy continues to inspire future generations.
Khemchand Singh stated that the Padma Shri recognition reflects the importance of preserving and promoting the rich cultural traditions of Manipur and the broader Northeastern region.
The Chief Minister also congratulated several other personalities from Northeast India who were honoured with Padma Shri awards this year for their outstanding contributions in different fields.
Among the awardees were Kabindra Purkayastha (Posthumous) for Public Affairs, Jogesh Deuri for Agriculture, Nuruddin Ahmed for Art, Pokhila Lekthepi for Art, and Haricharan Saikia.
The Padma Awards Investiture Ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of Droupadi Murmu.
According to the Chief Minister, the honours awarded to personalities from the Northeast highlight the region’s rich cultural heritage, artistic excellence, and meaningful contributions to the nation in diverse fields.
He further noted that such national recognition would encourage future generations to preserve indigenous traditions, cultural practices, and artistic heritage.
