Manipur: Four Arrested, Drugs Worth Over ₹10 Crore Seized in 36-Hour Crackdown
IMPHAL, September 3: Security forces in Manipur have arrested four people, including a woman, in separate anti-narcotics operations conducted across the state over the past 36 hours. Drugs estimated to be worth more than ₹10 crore on the international black market were reportedly seized during the operations.
In Jiribam, a joint team of district police, the CRPF and Assam Rifles, acting on specific intelligence inputs, intercepted a truck at Makha Basti. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 10.8 kg of brown sugar and heroin, allegedly concealed inside the truck’s roof. The driver, identified as Azahar Hussain alias Monu, a resident of Cachar, Assam, was arrested.
In a separate operation, Chandel District Police arrested a 37-year-old woman identified as Hatneichong, from Tengnoupal district, at Saluk under Chakpikarong Police Station. Police reportedly recovered six soap cases containing brown sugar from her possession.
Meanwhile, Imphal East commandos, based on intelligence inputs corroborated by the 28 Assam Rifles, apprehended two alleged drug peddlers at Thoubal Phoudel in Thoubal district.
The arrested individuals were identified as Akoijam Sushil Meitei, 43, and Thoiba Nameirakpam, 31. Security personnel reportedly recovered 22.4 kg of cannabis (ganja) and two mobile phones from them.
All four arrested persons have been booked under relevant provisions of law and handed over to the respective police stations for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The coordinated operations highlight the ongoing efforts by security agencies and police to curb the illegal trafficking and distribution of narcotics across Manipur.
