Manipur: KNA-B Denies Presence in India, Accuses Government of Scapegoating

The Myanmar-based Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) has denied any operational presence in India, accusing security agencies and the Manipur government of using the group as a scapegoat for alleged failures in maintaining law and order.

In an official statement issued on October 12, 2026, the Kuki National Organisation (KNO), operating as the Government of Kuki State General Headquarters, claimed that the KNA-B’s military activities were restricted to Myanmar, where it said the group was fighting to restore democracy and protect civilians.

The organisation rejected intelligence reports claiming that two KNA-B cadres had been killed in Kamjong district of Manipur, describing the allegations as fabricated. It also denied conducting cross-border operations in India or maintaining operational links with Kuki armed groups based in the country.

The statement emphasised that shared ethnic ties between Kuki communities in India and Myanmar should not be interpreted as evidence of cross-border militancy. It further stated that Kuki communities in India have democratic channels to raise their grievances and are pursuing political negotiations to address the ongoing conflict in Manipur.

The denial comes amid heightened security along the porous India-Myanmar border, where reported movements of armed elements have raised concerns in several border districts.
