Manipur: Over 8,300 Codeine-Containing Cough Syrup Bottles Seized in Imphal West
Security forces seized 8,320 bottles of cough syrup containing codeine phosphate during an anti-narcotics operation near a riverbank in Imphal West district on Wednesday.
According to police, 52 boxes containing the cough syrup bottles were recovered from the Oinam Thingel riverbank area.
The seizure followed disclosures made by three persons arrested on October 4 during separate anti-narcotics operations in Imphal East and Imphal West. The suspects were earlier found with cough syrups containing codeine phosphate.
Police investigation identified Nongthombam Jamesjit, proprietor of a drug store at Naoremthong Bazar, as the suspected key person behind the network. He was traced to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and arrested on Tuesday.
A four-day transit remand has been obtained to bring him to Manipur for further investigation.
