Manipur Police DGP Urges Stronger Action Against Extortion, Reviews Security in Noney

Imphal, July 7: Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Singh on Tuesday directed police personnel to intensify efforts against extortion in Manipur and ensure that criminal cases are investigated efficiently and disposed of without unnecessary delay.

According to a police statement, the DGP issued the directions while reviewing the law and order, crime, and operational situation during his visit to the Noney District Police Headquarters.

During the review meeting, Singh stressed the importance of maintaining peace and public order, enhancing anti-extortion operations, and carrying out thorough, timely investigations into pending cases. He instructed officers to remain vigilant and proactive in tackling extortion-related activities across the district.

The police chief also visited the CRPF camp at Lamdangmei to evaluate the security scenario in the district’s fringe areas. He later chaired a coordination meeting with commanding officers of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) deployed in Noney.

The meeting focused on strengthening security arrangements, with particular attention given to ensuring the safe movement of essential commodities along National Highway-37, the vital Imphal–Jiribam route.

During his visit, Singh also met representatives of civil society organisations in Noney. He assured them of the district police’s continued support and cooperation while appealing for sustained public participation in maintaining law and order and promoting long-term peace in the region.
