Manipur’s Deepak Chingakham Posthumously Honoured with Vir Chakra; Family Receives Gallantry Award
Imphal, June 9: Border Security Force (BSF) Constable Deepak Chingakham of Manipur has been posthumously conferred the Vir Chakra, one of India’s highest wartime gallantry awards, in recognition of his exceptional courage and supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
The prestigious honour was received by his family members during the investiture ceremony held on June 8, 2026, marking a proud yet emotional moment for the state and the bereaved family.
Paying tribute to the fallen soldier, senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh hailed Deepak Chingakham as a courageous son of Manipur whose dedication to duty and commitment to the nation embodied the highest ideals of patriotism and service.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Singh expressed his deepest respect for the late BSF constable, stating that his bravery and selfless sacrifice would remain a lasting source of inspiration for future generations.
“I pay my deepest respects to Constable (Late) Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force, a brave son of Manipur, who has been posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra for his exceptional courage and supreme sacrifice in service of the nation,” Singh said.
He further noted that the gallant soldier’s unwavering devotion to duty serves as a reminder of the immense sacrifices made by members of the armed and security forces in protecting the country and its citizens.
“Manipur stands proud of its fallen hero and salutes his sacrifice for the motherland,” Singh added.
