Manipur’s Ritu Chanu Selected for India’s 2026 Commonwealth Wheelchair Basketball Team
Irengbam Ritu Chanu from Manipur has been selected to represent India in the women’s wheelchair basketball team for the 2026 Commonwealth Games 2026, scheduled from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow.
Ritu Chanu, daughter of I. Ibochouba Meitei from Bishnupur district, earned selection following her strong performances in national wheelchair basketball competitions, where the Manipur team finished runners-up to Maharashtra in the finals.
Yumnam Khemchand Singh congratulated her on social media, praising her determination and courage while reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting talented sportspersons from the state.
Wheelchair basketball is an inclusive sport for athletes with permanent lower-limb impairments, including paraplegia, amputations, cerebral palsy, and polio, and is also featured in the Paralympic Games.
