Three Abandoned Houses Torched in Kailenjang Amid Gunfire Reports
Imphal, October 8, 2026: Three abandoned houses were allegedly set ablaze by unidentified persons in Kailenjang village along the Kangpokpi-Senapati border on Wednesday afternoon, amid reports of gunfire in the area.
The incident reportedly occurred around 2:30 pm after residents heard bursts of gunfire near the village. No casualties were reported as the houses had already been vacated, but the structures were destroyed and documents and other belongings were reportedly damaged.
Senapati district police and CRPF personnel were deployed following the incident. Two CRPF platoons were already stationed in the vicinity.
Kailenjang has remained largely deserted since September 26, when three Naga civilians—Rocky Mao, Kumar Poumai and Ashiho Sani—were killed in an attack reportedly attributed to suspected Kuki militants.
Security agencies are investigating the arson and examining whether it was connected to the earlier killings and the reported gunfire.
Kuki civil society organisations have called for an NIA probe into civilian killings, compensation for affected families and permanent deployment of Central Armed Police Forces in vulnerable border areas.
