Manipur: ₹1,556 Crore Sanctioned for Relief and Rehabilitation of Displaced People
The Centre and Manipur Government have sanctioned a combined ₹1,556.53 crore for relief, housing and rehabilitation of people displaced by the violence that began in Manipur on May 3, 2023.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said around 60,000 people were displaced by the conflict. Of these, nearly 36,000 have returned home or been resettled, while about 24,000 remain in relief camps. The government is also providing monthly financial assistance to nearly 59,000 displaced people, including those who have returned but continue to face livelihood difficulties.
According to the Home Department, the total funding includes ₹789.72 crore from the Central Government and ₹768.81 crore from the Manipur Government. The funds are being used for relief camps, temporary shelters, permanent houses, compensation and other rehabilitation measures.
More than ₹111 crore was sanctioned for relief camp operations, including supplementary nutrition and essential hygiene items. The Centre also approved ₹122.17 crore for 3,000 temporary shelters and ₹119 crore for permanent housing.
Another ₹217.14 crore was allocated for wider relief and rehabilitation activities. In addition, ₹70 crorewas sanctioned as initial compensation for 7,000 families whose household belongings were lost during the violence.
The Manipur Government issued 129 sanction orders amounting to ₹768.81 crore between September 2023 and May 2026, with funds provided to district authorities for relief and rehabilitation work.
