Manipur: Four Arrested in Separate Security Operations, Three Allegedly Linked to RPF/PLA

Imphal, Manipur: Manipur Police and central security forces have arrested four individuals in separate operations carried out across the state, officials said. Among those apprehended, three were allegedly associated with the proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), the political wing of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

The arrests were made during intensified security operations targeting suspected militant activities, extortion networks and other unlawful activities in vulnerable areas of Manipur. One of the arrests was connected to an investigation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, while the remaining operations formed part of a 48-hour security drive conducted across several locations.

Drug Trafficking Case: Man Arrested in Jiribam

According to police officials, a team from Jiribam Police Station arrested 31-year-old Rohim Mia, a resident of Shashani in Malda district of West Bengal, on August 6.

The arrest was made in connection with a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Following the completion of the required legal formalities, Mia was brought to Jiribam Police Station.

Police said questioning of the accused is underway as investigators work to establish the details of the alleged drug trafficking case and identify any possible links associated with the network.

Alleged RPF/PLA Cadre Arrested in Thoubal

In a separate security operation, forces arrested 59-year-old Shagolshem Rokeshwar Singh alias Shanta from the Khongjom Langathel area under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district.

Police identified Singh as an active alleged RPF/PLA cadre. The arrest was carried out as part of intensified security measures in vulnerable areas of the valley.

Officials said further investigation is being conducted to determine his alleged activities and possible connections with other members of the banned organisation.

Second Alleged RPF/PLA Member Held in Kakching

Security forces also apprehended 56-year-old Thounaojam Ibochouba Meitei alias Lamta in Kakching district.

According to police, Meitei was allegedly associated with the RPF/PLA and was described as a self-styled corporal of the organisation. He was arrested near Nongjubi Changpham, close to Eco Park Road, under Kakching Police Station.

Investigators are now questioning him to gather information about his alleged activities and possible links with the banned outfit.

Bishnupur Man Arrested Over Alleged Extortion Activities

In another operation, security forces arrested 54-year-old Khangembam Subhash Singh alias Thanil, a resident of Irengbam Makha Leikai in Bishnupur district.

Police alleged that Subhash Singh was associated with the PLA/RPF and was involved in extortion-related activities in urban areas of the valley.

Authorities are examining the allegations and investigating whether he was connected to a wider extortion network operating in the region.

UNLF (Koireng) Member Also Arrested

Security forces also arrested 44-year-old Konsam Sanatomba from Lamlong in Imphal East.

Police identified Sanatomba as an active member of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (Koireng). Officials alleged that he was involved in extortion activities.

According to police, Sanatomba had allegedly threatened a non-Manipuri resident of Telepati using live ammunition while demanding money.

The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb extortion, intimidation and other unlawful activities in the valley districts.

Security Operations Intensified Across Manipur

The latest arrests come amid heightened security measures across Manipur. Police and central security forces have been conducting coordinated operations in vulnerable areas as part of a broader 48-hour security sweep.

Officials said the operations are aimed at identifying and apprehending individuals allegedly involved in militant activities, extortion, drug-related offences and other criminal activities.

Following the arrests, security arrangements have reportedly been strengthened across several valley districts to prevent further incidents and maintain public safety.

Investigation Underway

Police said interrogation of the arrested individuals is currently underway. Investigators are examining their alleged activities and looking into possible financial networks, weapons-related connections and digital evidence.

Authorities are also attempting to determine whether the individuals arrested in the separate operations have links with broader networks involved in unlawful activities.

Officials said further arrests or recoveries could follow if the ongoing investigations reveal additional evidence.
